Peer Member Qualifications and Guidelines

 

The NC TACT Peers will consist of those individuals who have a working knowledge of CISM, who truly understand confidentiality and have a sincere desire and dedication to assist their fellow telecommunicators during times of crisis. NC TACT Peers will:

 

1.      Agree to the role of Peer Team Member by ensuring the Peer Team Commitment Form is completed.

2.      Maintain strict confidentiality regarding critical incidents and any TACT response

3.      Participate in the TACT In-Service workshops and annual training meetings;

4.      Identify and report critical incidents that have occurred based on the criteria set out in the TACT Program.

5.      Notify the Regional Team Leader of any critical incidents.

6.      Not attempt to conduct any independent form of CISM interventions or training unless such matters have the approval of the TACT coordinator.

7.      Not be allowed to participate in any incidents that involved them or their agencies as a team representative. 

8.      Conduct follow-up interventions when requested by the TACT Specialist.

9.      Assist the TACT Specialist in debriefing, when requested;

10. Complete a TACT Service Report – Interventions/Contacts for all CIS responses (see Attachment)

11. Assist the TACT Coordinator in the review and ongoing development of the TACT program;

12. Participate in the recruitment of other members.

13. At all times maintain a professional demeanor in performance and appearance.

14. Always adhere to the policies and guidelines of their respective agency.

15. NOT perform as counselors or psychologists - never attempt that role.

16. When responding to a CISM request, never provide information by email - only by phone directly to the individual or in person.

17. Be sensitive - do not leave voice mail messages that identify you as a CISM Peer team member, leave only your name and contact number.

18. In person, always identify yourself as a member of the Critical Incident Stress Team.

19. Offer support to line staff and management peers.

20.  Not take notes during a Debriefing.
