Chatham County - Emergency Communications Director

Chatham County, North Carolina (County Seat, Pittsboro, NC), is seeking a a tech savvy Emergency Communications expert to be their next Emergency Communications Director with the ability to lead well-trained staff and work effectively with the existing and evolving County Emergency system. This is an exciting opportunity to apply leadership to critical emergency communications challenges in a community with a small town feel that is rapidly growing. The successful Director has a track record of partnering and collaborating with multiple stakeholders such as the Sheriff’s Department, Animal Control, municipal and volunteer Fire Departments, and police departments. 

Position responsibilities: The Emergency Communications Director oversees a $1.5M budget and supervises 21 employees including 4 shift supervisors, 16 telecommunicators and 1 quality assurant. A comprehensive training program yields competent staff who have the opportunities to gain expertise in EMS, Fire and Law Enforcement communications over time.  Emergency Medical Dispatch is accredited; Emergency Fire Dispatch accreditation is underway. The effective candidate will carry out several key priorities including replacing the Emergency Communications Radio System and Expansion of 911 Center facilities.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years increasingly responsible professional experience in an Emergency Communications Center at a manager level role or above.  A bachelor’s degree is highly preferred.  NC 911 Management Center Certification or ability to complete within a year is a requirement.  Must have proven track record in 911 Center management and be adept at understanding and applying technological solutions to problems.

Salary range and Application Process: Hiring range is $69,870- $108,299 with compensation within the range negotiable based on experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will be expected to live within 30 minutes of Pittsboro.
