Telecommunications Technology Specialist - Person County Emergency Services

General Statement of Duties:
Researches, plans, and coordinates with various staff and vendors upgrades in equipment such as CAD, consoles, computer systems, and other electronic systems. Provides IT support for 911 telecommunications hardware and software; repairs computers and printers; answers user questions on hardware and software. Acts as a liaison between Person County Information Technology and Person County Emergency Services for hardware, software related issues.  Provides support for 911 Next Generation systems hardware and software; providing assistance to vendors and contracted parties regarding repairs, upgrades, and systems. Works with IT Department staff , other County departments and other county agencies assuring telecommunications technology and procedures coordinate with that of other agencies; may represents the County or department on various internal and county-wide committees related to communications and technology issues. Coordinates the 911 database for maps and streets; downloads updated addresses to the CAD system; updates and maintains CAD system.  Coordinates with Person County GIS regarding the database for maps and streets. Maintains and updates the Person County CAD system, including streets, landmarks, and response plans. Troubleshoots and takes appropriate action to maintain telecommunications radios and networks; may perform remote trouble-shooting via laptop computer. Troubleshoots and maintains DCI connectivity. Oversees maintenance and repair of radio system towers, repeaters, microwaves, etc. Maintains, updates, and provides user support and training in a variety of software including Southern Software MDS, Southern Software CAD, Southern Software Mobile Pak MDIS, OMNIX DCI, EMD software ProQA Paramount, etc. Checks throughput on data cables, tests radio wattage, tests connectivity. Fills in a Telecommunicator when needed. Prepares budget and makes purchases of technology resources. Advises (division manager) on needs and related technology issues. Maintains the CODERED system for the County. Serves as the portable radio maintenance coordinator for the Emergency Services Dept. Emergency Services radio maintenance coordinator, and the FCC Coordinator for Person County Government.  Maintains and recertifies licensed frequencies, and antenna structural registrations for Person County Government.

Desirable education and experience: Graduation from a community college with a two year degree in technology or related field and experience in work with computer hardware and software, telephone and radio  communications systems or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Special requirements: Certification by the State of North Carolina for DCI operations; must possess EMD certification by the State of North Carolina for DCI operations, National Academy of Emergency Dispatch EMD Certification, and have the ability to be certified as a Telecommunicator within 90 days of employment. 
Starting salary:  Grade 72- $42,330
