North Carolina APCO :: 2010 Officer Nominations

It is time to start thinking about who you would like to nominate to fill the NC APCO offices that are up for election in 2010. Please consider who best could fill these elected offices and nominate them. However, please do not nominate anyone until you verify with them that they are willing to run for the office and that they hold an “active” membership with APCO. If someone wants to run for office and does not have an active membership they will need to upgrade their membership to the active status. By NC APCO Bylaws, only active members can run for and hold office. Once someone is nominated, the committee will need a written statement/letter of support from their management/agency head stating that the nominee has the full support of their agency if elected to this office before they will be placed on the election ballot (this will be requested by the nomination committee at the appropriate time).

We will be seeking nominations for 2nd Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Regional Ambassadors for Regions B, D, and F for 2010.

We are nominating and electing differently this year, in accordance to our recently revised bylaws. The nomination and election process used to cost NC APCO in excess of $1,000 per year for postage and printing of the nomination forms and the ballots. Since we are trying to keep up with current technology, we decided to do the nomination and election process electronically via the website from here forward. This does not mean however if you do not have access to the internet that you cannot get a paper ballot. If you need a paper ballot it must be requested through the Past President, who chairs the Nominating Committee.

In the past, the nomination and election process has been totally anonymous. Unfortunately, we could not do this with an electronic process because there would be no way to ensure that someone does not vote multiple times thus affecting the outcome of the election. We are requiring that each voting member give their name and APCO member number on the nomination and election forms. The only individuals who will be privy to this information are the three members, who make up the Nominating/Election Committee. If you do not know your membership number it can be obtained through the APCO International website or by contacting the President or Secretary of NC APCO. We hope that through this process more members will take part in the nomination and election since it will be easier and require less time and effort for the member.

To nominate you will use this link:

When a slate of officers for election is chosen you will be given another link via email and the link will also be announced at all of the meetings up to the election deadline, so that you may vote.

Thanks,

Nomination/Election Committee Chair
NC APCO Past President
